I heard about this new discovered cave in southernmost region of our country. The cave has temporary name Son Tra, locate in Kien Luong commune, Kien Giang province, Mekong Delta region of southern Vietnam. It has been formed and erected naturally for thousands of years. But due to the stone mining industry, people are afraid the cave will disappear soon as the province has approved projects to excavate rocks, granites, limestones, sand and gravel in this area.

National Geographic Your Shot – Aug 8, 2017

This awe-inspiring fine-art print showcases a hidden gem nestled in the southernmost reaches of our country—a newly discovered cave known as Son Tra. Situated in the picturesque Kien Luong commune within the Mekong Delta region of Kien Giang province, this natural wonder has sculpted itself over millennia, standing as a testament to the beauty crafted by time.

Son Tra cave, with its temporary designation, beckons viewers into a world shaped by the forces of nature. The photograph captures the essence of this extraordinary geological formation, offering a glimpse into the intricate details that have evolved over thousands of years. The cave’s existence, however, is under threat from the encroaching stone mining industry.

As the provincial authorities greenlight projects aimed at extracting rocks, granites, limestones, sand, and gravel from the surrounding area, the very fabric of Son Tra cave’s existence hangs in the balance. The image, sourced from National Geographic’s Your Shot platform on August 8, 2017, serves as a poignant reminder of the fragile coexistence between nature’s marvels and the human activities that may inadvertently erase them.
